Romanticism:
An art form that found it’s origins in the nineteenth century. Romanticism artists incorporate an emotional and sort of dramatic feel into their paintings. Much of Romanticism’s style was benefited by the teachings of Jacques Louis David’s pupils. Some of these pupils were Baron Antoine-Jean Gros, Anne-Louis Girodet-Trioson, and Jean Auguste-Dominique Ingres. Romanticism art sometimes fostered art of violent images in nature, depicting nature’s terrifying strength. Additionally, the style was formed after the Enlightenment, meaning that it most likely retracted many Enlightenment ideas. This quote by Charles Baudelaire sums up Romanticism quite nicely, “Romanticism is precisely situated neither in choice of subject nor in exact truth, but in a way of feeling.” (Heilbrunn Timeline of Art History)
