Impressionism is most widely in the form of landscapes or candid in vivid color, and utilizes a technique that leaves an impression of what you are viewing, rather than trying to achieve realism. Claude Monet and Pierre Auguste Renoir are two artists of the Impressionist movement that are quite well known.(Impressionism) Impressionist art was criticized for being too “sketchy”, which is the bare essence of Impressionism. Also, leaving brushstrokes in the painting rather than blending them is part of what gives Impressionist art it’s characteristic look. Paintings often featured city folk and everyday suburbia.
